NLRC Division Facilitates P2.5 Million Settlement for OFW Seafarer with Permanent Disability
Cagayan de Oro City — Demonstrating its continued commitment to upholding the rights of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) 8th Division facilitated the amicable settlement of an appealed labor case involving a Filipino seafarer.
The ₱2,557,575.00 settlement, facilitated by Deputy Executive Clerk Maria Liora O. Alonso-Williams, covers the seafarer’s claims for permanent disability compensation, sickness allowance, and other related benefits. The claimant, who had served aboard an international vessel, was declared permanently unfit for sea service following a work-related condition.
This successful resolution reaffirms the NLRC’s role as a dependable venue for labor justice and fair dispute resolution, particularly in cases affecting the Filipino workers here and abroad.
The Commission continues to promote amicable settlements at any stage of the proceedings as a practical and compassionate approach to safeguarding workers’ rights while encouraging cooperation among stakeholders in the labor and maritime sectors.
