NLRC NCRAB Successfully Mediates Php1.07M Settlement for OFW Seafarer
QUEZON CITY—In a testament to the effectiveness of mediation in resolving labor disputes, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) National Capital Region Arbitration Branch (NCRAB) successfully facilitated a settlement of Php1,070,900 involving an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) seafarer.
The labor dispute arose from disability claims of the seafarer which was brought before NLRC-NCRAB Branch No. 15 through Labor Arbiter Loverhette P. Villordon.
Through continued mediation and open communication, the parties were gradually able to reassess their claims and defenses, leading to a more practical and mutually beneficial perspective of the dispute. This proved crucial in bridging differences and fostering a cooperative environment conducive to settlement.
Ultimately, the parties voluntarily entered into a Compromise Agreement, which effectively settled all claims and resulted in the termination of the case without the need for further litigation. The prompt resolution spared both parties from the delays and expenses of prolonged proceedings and allowed them to move forward without further conflict.
This outcome underscores the vital role of Labor Arbiters not only as an adjudicator but also as a mediator who facilitates fair and expeditious dispute resolution. It likewise highlights the effectiveness of mediation in cases involving seafarers, where timely and practical solutions are of paramount importance.
The successful settlement reflects the continuing commitment of the NLRC to promote industrial peace and to deliver efficient, responsive, and equitable labor justice.
