NLRC Facilitates Amicable Settlement, Granting P1.8 Million in Compensation to 23 Workers
CEBU CITY – In a recent development, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) Seventh Division successfully facilitated an amicable settlement between twenty-three (23) workers and their former employers, resulting in a total compensation of P1.8 Million. The settlement, which took place on June 26, 2023, was presided over by Commission Attorney Alan B. Peloton and attended by the worker-complainants, their counsel, as well as the counsel of the respondent-companies.
The NLRC recognizes and supports the amicable settlement process as an effective means of resolving labor disputes, aligning with its mission to provide the fairest, quickest, least expensive, and most effective resolution for such cases. During the hearing, the worker-complainants explicitly expressed that their decision to enter into a compromise agreement with their former employers was voluntary and free from coercion. Throughout the settlement process, they were duly assisted by their legal counsel to ensure their rights and interests were protected.
Once all parties involved signed the compromise agreement, their respective counsels jointly submitted a Joint Motion for Dismissal on June 27, 2023. This motion requests the NLRC to officially declare the case closed and terminated, thereby acknowledging the successful resolution through the amicable settlement.
The NLRC’s facilitation of this amicable settlement highlights its commitment to encouraging alternative dispute resolution methods and promoting harmonious labor relations. By providing a platform for dialogue and negotiation, the NLRC aims to expedite the resolution of labor disputes, while ensuring the satisfaction of all parties involved.
The NLRC remains dedicated to its mandate of upholding fairness and justice in labor-related matters, fostering an environment where workers’ rights are protected, and disputes are resolved through peaceful means. END
