Tri-Orgs Host BMW Learning Event on Overseas Employment Updates with NLRC Participation

CITY OF MANILA – On September 22, 2023, three prominent Overseas Filipino Workers service providers, JEPPCA (Japan Employment Providers of the Philippines and Consultants Association), PEACEME (Philippine Employment Agencies and Association for Corporate Employers in the Middle East), and EC-ANZAEPP (Europe Canada – Australia and New Zealand Association of Employment Providers of the Philippines, Inc.), collectively known as the Tri-Orgs, organized a noteworthy event.  The “Basic Must know, Winnable (BMW)” learning session was held at the Bayview Park Hotel Roxas Blvd., City of Manila, focusing on crucial updates, policies and concerns related to overseas employment.

Recognizing the importance of staying informed in the ever-evolving landscape of overseas employment, the Tri-Orgs invited the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) as resource panels for this significant event.  Labor Arbiters Michael Anthony N. Clemente and Raphael Kenneth E. Ybañez, representing the NLRC NCR Arbitration Branch, accepted the invitation.

The learning session zeroed in on the employment updates in the countries represented by the Tri-Orgs.  This included discussions on recent labor issuances, basic wages, and the most in-demand job opportunities in these nations.  The objective of these discussions is to create a fair and legal avenue for Filipino citizens seeking employment overseas, thereby minimizing uncertainties related to their overseas work prospects.

In addition to the NLRC, insurance companied dedicated to the welfare of OFWs were present at the event, demonstrating their commitment to the well-being of Filipino workers abroad.

The NLRC played a pivotal role in the event by contributing to the participants’ learning experience and explaining the legal procedures to follow in case of rights violations by employers or employees.  Labor Arbiter Clemente provided insights into the Single-Entry Approach (SEnA), highlighting the process, significance, and the ultimate goal of achieving amicable settlements. He emphasized that the SEnA program is cost-free, as it discourages the presence of lawyers, fostering direct discussions between the parties involved.

On the other hand, Labor Arbiter Ybañez delved into the fundamental principles of Labor Law embodied in Supreme Court decisions.  He underscored that NLRC decisions are firmly rooted in existing labor laws and jurisprudence.

The event’s highlight was the engaging question and answer session, allowing attendees to freely seek clarification on various labor issues.  Questions predominantly revolved around processes and procedures, and Labor Arbiters Clemente and Ybañez provided comprehensive responses based on their professional expertise.

In its unwavering commitment to fostering understanding and promoting labor-related knowledge, the NLRC continues to actively engage in labor education initiatives for various stakeholders.
