NLRC Hosts Dialogue with Landbased and Seabased Manning Agencies

The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) conducted a significant dialogue with representatives from various landbased and seabased manning agencies on July 5, 2024, at the NLRC Conference Room, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. Recognizing the importance of tripartism, the meeting aimed to address critical issues affecting the industry.

Present at the dialogue were representatives from several prominent landbased and seabased manning agencies, as well as officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The comprehensive discussion provided an open platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns, share insights, and propose solutions.

Key topics of discussion included the pressing issue of ambulance chasing, which significantly impacts the rights and welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The dialogue also focused on enhancing cooperation among stakeholders to create a more supportive and efficient system for migrant workers. Additionally, participants discussed relevant legislation affecting OFWs, with the aim of strengthening legal protections and improving working conditions.

Chairperson Grace E. Maniquiz-Tan assured representatives from various landbased and seabased manning agencies that the NLRC, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the DMW, has taken decisive steps to address the menace of ambulance chasing. She highlighted the collaborative efforts being undertaken to ensure a more robust legal framework and effective enforcement measures to protect Filipino workers from exploitative practices.

The dialogue underscored the importance of continuous engagement and cooperation among all stakeholders in the industry. By working together, the NLRC aims to foster a more supportive and efficient system for migrant workers, ensuring their rights and welfare are upheld.
