NLRC Reconstitutes Central Safety and Security Committee to Bolster Disaster Preparedness and Workplace Safety
Quezon City – In line with its continuing commitment to institutional resilience and employee welfare, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) has officially reconstituted its Central Safety and Security Committee (CSSC)to strengthen disaster preparedness, emergency response, workplace safety, and physical security within the Commission.
The reconstitution of the Committee is in accordance with existing national safety regulations issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS), the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and other relevant government agencies. This initiative forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to align its internal safety mechanisms with national policies and standards.
Heading the Committee is Commissioner Nicolas B. Nicolas of the Second Division, with Commissioners Cecilio Alejandro C. Villanueva and Donna C. Ramos serving as Co-Chairpersons. The Central Safety and Security Committee is tasked to act as the principal body responsible for the development, coordination, and oversight of all policies and programs related to disaster risk reduction and management, workplace safety, and physical security across all NLRC offices and facilities.
The Committee also includes designated Safety and Security Officers from various offices and units, who are assigned to implement floor-level safety measures and response protocols. These officers will serve as the first line of defense in times of emergencies, ensuring that evacuation procedures, safety drills, and emergency communications are carried out effectively and consistently.
Chairperson Grace E. Maniquiz-Tan emphasized the significance of the Committee’s role in safeguarding both personnel and visitors within NLRC premises. She noted that “ensuring a safe and secure working environment is a shared responsibility that must be guided by proactive leadership, coordinated planning, and continuous readiness.”
With the reconstitution of the Central Safety and Security Committee, the NLRC reaffirms its dedication to protecting lives and property, maintaining business continuity, and fostering a culture of safety and preparedness in the workplace.
