NLRC NCR Arbitration Branch Facilitates Settlement of Over P8.6 Million in Death Benefits for Heirs of OFW Seafarers
Quezon City — The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) National Capital Region (NCR) Arbitration Branch successfully facilitated the settlement of two separate labor cases involving Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) seafarers, resulting in the release of death benefits totaling more than ₱8.6 million in favor of their respective heirs.
In one case, the heirs of a deceased OFW seafarer received ₱2,839,210.00, representing death benefits under applicable labor and maritime employment laws. In a separate case, the heirs of another OFW seafarer were awarded ₱5,768,851.94, likewise corresponding to death-related monetary benefits.
The settlements were facilitated by Labor Arbiter Salvador C. Alcuino, Jr., with the assistance of Labor Arbitration Associate Francis T. Flotildes and Stenographic Reporter Marck Foster, whose coordinated efforts ensured the timely and orderly resolution of the cases.
The successful settlement of these claims underscores the NLRC NCR Arbitration Branch’s continued commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of OFW seafarers and their families, particularly in ensuring the prompt delivery of compensation arising from work-related contingencies.
Through efficient case handling and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, the NLRC remains steadfast in its mandate to provide accessible, fair, and responsive labor justice to all workers, including those employed overseas and their beneficiaries.
