NLRC Advocates Women Empowerment Through GAD Film Showing

As the second activity in the series of events for Women’s Month, the National Labor Relations (NLRC) conducted a GAD Advocacy Film Showing on March 11, 2026 to raise awareness and deepen understanding on gender equality, women's rights, and gender sensitivity.

In her opening message, Ms. Belen D. Nicasio, GAD Focal Person, explained the relevance of the film's realistic portrayal of social issues and expressed her hope that “the film would serve as a channel for women’s empowerment.”

“Ang Babaeng Humayo,” a 2016 Philippine drama film directed by Lav Diaz, tells the story of a woman who regains her freedom after years of imprisonment when the real perpetrator finally admits guilt. Through her journey, the film presents the strength, resilience, and compassion of a woman facing life’s challenges and how she was able to overcome these hardships.

The activity was attended by employees and clients in the Main Office, allowing a wider audience to reflect on the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women in society.

After the screening, Mr. Harold M. Carbo, member of the GAD Focal Point System Technical Working Group, shared his reflection on the issues raised in the film. “I hope the movie deepened our understanding about the challenges of women and other marginalized groups and realized that more work is needed to address our attitudes towards the role of women in our society.”
