NLRC Conducts Disaster Preparedness and Fire Safety Orientation

Quezon City - The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) conducted a hybrid Disaster Preparedness and Fire Safety Orientation on March 16, 2026 to equip employees with the knowledge, skills, and awareness necessary to prevent fires and respond safely and effectively during disasters and emergencies.

In his opening message, Commissioner Nicolas B. Nicolas of the Second Division emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness through proactive planning and proper training in ensuring collective safety. Commissioner Nicolas reminded participants that in times of crisis, “Don’t let fear dictate the situation and let preparation and training guide your action.”

Mr. Ramon R. Jose, Public Information Officer III of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO), provided an overview of the country’s disaster situation, basic concepts on hazards and disasters, and the necessary actions before, during, and after emergencies. He also shared some initiatives of the Quezon City Government aimed at mitigating disaster risks.

Ms. Maria Rizhell M. Apo, Administrative Officer and Trainer of QCDRRMO, focused on earthquake and fire safety, particularly in the Metro Manila context. Her lecture covered earthquake preparedness, safety practices during emergencies, fire prevention measures, and the supplies needed to create survival kits and go bags.

This orientation is part of the Commission’s commitment to improve the preparedness and responsiveness of its designated security and safety officers, as well as all NLRC officials and employees, in handling emergency situations.
