NLRC Division Facilitates P6 Million Settlement for OFW Seafarer with Permanent Disability
Quezon City — Demonstrating its continued commitment to upholding the rights of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), through the Office of Commissioner Mary Ann F. Plata-Daytia of the 4th Division, facilitated the amicable settlement of an appealed labor case involving an injured seafarer.
The ?6,072,250.00 settlement, facilitated by Commission Attorney Tiofilo S. Villanueva, covers the permanent disability claims of a seafarer who served as a bosun aboard an international vessel, following a work-related condition that rendered him permanently unfit for sea service.
This successful resolution reaffirms the NLRC’s role as a dependable venue for labor justice and fair dispute resolution, particularly in cases affecting the livelihood and welfare of Filipino workers here and abroad.
The Commission continues to promote amicable settlements at any stage of the proceedings as a practical and compassionate approach to safeguarding workers’ rights while encouraging cooperation among stakeholders in the labor and maritime sectors.
